CLUB PURCHASES NEW LAWN MOWER

After a long period of discussions with our Committee and our volunteer green team members, we are happy to announce the purchase of a new Lawn Mower at the club.  Over the years, our original John Deere model, having been well maintained and serviced in accordance with manufacturers requirement, is starting to become very costly to maintain. Whilst it still functions excellently, we felt it was prudent to purchase a new Mower in case the John Deere does fail mid season. Without a fully functioning Mower, we would not have been able to maintain the green over the season.

We approached the Isle & Royal Manor of Portland's Court Leet to see if we were able to secure a disbursement to help pay for it. Thankfully, the Court agreed and helped us part fund the new mower.

Secondly we approached the Isle of Portland Town Council, who also offered some funding for the Mower. We would like to thank both these organisations for their generous gifts and their support of our club and our ethos.

This funding allowed us to deliberate on the type of Mower we should purchase, finally making a prudent decision. We took delivery of the new Mower in early May 2026. Initially, we will use the new mower with its special cylindrical attachment as a spiking machine and utilise the John Deere model as the main grass cutting machine.

Green team members, Phil A, Phil M, Alan, John, Rob and Colin are delighted with the purchase which will ensure that we have a back-up device should anything fail in the future.

PORTLAND VICTORIA BC EARNS FIRST VICTORY OF THE 2026 COUNTY DIVISION 1 (W) LEAGUE

Monday the 27th of April 2026, our Men's Rink League of 3 rinks in the Dorset County Division 1 (West) became victors on home soil against Sherborne. The 10-0 win firmly cemented our intensions this season. With a final total score of 63 shots to 30, PVBC goes top of the league on shot aggregate. Yes, it is indeed early days of course, and the league standings do not really mean much this early in the season, but the positivity will help as the season continues. Next up for the Club, is in the South Dorset Bowls Association Division 1 League where we are away to the Club across Portland Harbour. 'Wellworthy'. Starting at 1800 Friday the 1st of May 2026. And will be the first game of our SDBA Season.

Our Ladies have a little longer to wait to start their SDBA season with their first game at Home on Wednesday the 20th May at 1800. The Ladies cannot wait to get started, but are fully aware of their tough opponents when Weymouth & Melcombe Ladies visit.

The 2026 Season has now started... from now on it will be Bowls Bowls Bowls... and in that order!

An Honour for an Honnor

Portland Victoria Bowling Club is delighted to announce that our very own Paul Honnor has been selected as President for the South Dorset Bowls Association for 2026.

Paul is pictured accepting the chain of office from outgoing President Sheena Willis. Sheena was an exemplary President and Paul has big shoes to fill.

Paul joined Portland Victoria Bowling Club in 2022 and quickly became a firm favourite within the Club and also at the many Clubs around Dorset. When Paul joined us, he was quickly put into the SDBA and the County league. This was quite a daunting prospect for Paul as he had not played many games and would be the first to admit that he did not play particularly well, but with the guidance and support from all the members of the Club, Paul quickly became a very good Bowler.

Recently, Paul has been captain of many of our friendly matches and conducted himself well. His infectious demeanour rubs off on everyone he meets, and he is also a talented Home Baker which is another feather in our Club's cap. Paul is now our Friendlies Secretary and is doing a fine job.

All of us here at Portland Vic are immensely proud of what Paul has achieved in his five years and we hope his commitment to the club will continue for many years to come. Congratulation Paul! Well deserved!

Look-Out Devizes... Here We Come!

Last year in 2025 we welcomed the guys and gals of Devizes Bowls Club for a Summer Friendly. They were an absolute delight to play with and we have made some great friends in this friendly Wiltshire club. We enjoyed their company so much... We are going to visit THEM on Saturday the13th June 2026 at 14:00. We are looking forward to seeing our new friends again and we hope to cement our ties even further. The Game of Bowls is not just about playing the sport... It is about making good friends along the way.  Paul will bring CAKE!
