Greens Do Not Maintain Themselves!
The most important thing about running a lawn bowling club is of course the playing surface. These Greens are expensive to maintain, not only in the summer months but also weekly during the winter months. We are lucky to have a small but dedicated Green Team, who, through wind, rain and sunny sun, spend many hours keeping our Green in the best possible condition. Our members are the lifeblood of our club, without their dedication, we simply could not exist.
From Mowers to Seaweed
Our Green is maintained to an official and recognised schedule. This includes sending soil samples away for analysis, standard mowing at various heights, vertical cutting, spiking at various spike lengths to aerate the soil, fertilising with Nitrates and with a liquid seaweed feeding.
Also, we topsoil and seed. All this and on a regular basis!
We are currently fundraising to purchase a new lawn mower. We would like to thank 'Portland Town Council', 'Portland's Isle and Royal Manor Court Leet' and of course, our generous members for their kind donations toward this.
